Local Air Force ROTC students give Dayton neighborhood a makeover

DAYTON — Around 100 Wright State University students who are also cadets in the school’s Air Force ROTC program gave a local neighborhood a “major makeover.”

The cadets spent four hours last month clearing brush, debris and applying coats of primer to a house in a Dayton neighborhood, according to WSU. Cadets were required to participate because the initiative met training objectives including team and morale building helped the community.

The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps — ROTC for short — is a college program that trains students to become commissioned officers of the armed forces.

Students worked mostly in the Carillon neighborhood near the University of Dayton Arena, according to WSU. Cadets from the University of Dayton and Cedarville University were also part of the cleanup effort.

The cadets volunteered through the organization “Rebuilding Together Dayton,” which Wright State’s ROTC established a relationship with last year.

“It’s a great community to be part of,” said Lt. Col. Michelle Stoffa, who led the effort. “And it’s a good chance to serve others and make a difference in the world.”
