The Situation

As with many localities across the country, Virginia has seen a sharp uptick in short-term rentals in recent years. The proliferation of these properties, which are often highly unregulated, has unfortunately brought nuisance behaviors and even crime to many Virginia neighborhoods. Rightfully so, residents are concerned about the influx of short-term rentals creating instability in their neighborhoods.

Virginians are counting on their legislators to enact appropriate legislation to hold short-term rental platforms accountable for unlicensed, unregistered properties, ensure they pay their fair share of taxes, and decrease the potential for a drain on community resources due to excessive disturbances.

Legislative Initiatives

We’ve actively participated in Virginia’s legislative landscape in recent years, focusing on short-term rental bills that could have an impact on Virginia communities. We will continue to monitor and advocate for legislation that makes strides toward holding rental platforms accountable and addressing many of the concerns long-term residents have related to unregulated short-term rentals.
