‘Safety day’ brings together police and one Lexington neighborhood

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – For the second year in a row, police and community members gathered for ONE Lexington’s Winburn Public Safety Day.

The event was held at the Community Action Council on Winburn Drive Wednesday night. The goal is to bring together public safety officials and residents in the Winburn neighborhood.

“We are one entity looking out for each other,” said Community Action Council’s Ka’Sondra Brown. “The only way we can better ourselves, better our community is we know what’s out there to help us become better.”

In addition to food, games, and music, residents also had the chance to talk with various organizations for resources.

“Schools in the area are already signing people up for school next year … we have people helping you with the expungement process, we have law enforcement telling you how we operate, so you can have a better understanding between the police and how we have to operate,” said Officer Brandon Muravchick, who is assigned to the Winburn neighborhood.

People who attended the event were also given surveys to fill out that asked them to say how the quality of life in the neighborhood could improve.

“We haven’t been able to get out and feel comfortable with our kids in a long time, so for all of us to come together and have a good day like this is beautiful,” said resident, Nakeri Warthen.
