The Situation

As with many states across the country, North Carolina has seen a sharp uptick in short-term rentals in recent years. This proliferation of these properties, which are often highly unregulated, has unfortunately brought nuisance behaviors and even crime to many North Carolina neighborhoods. Rightfully so, North Carolina families are concerned about the influx of short-term rentals creating instability in their neighborhoods. North Carolinians are counting on their legislators to enact appropriate legislation to hold short-term rental platforms accountable for unlicensed, unregistered properties, ensure they pay their fair share of taxes, and decrease the potential for a drain on community resources due to excessive disturbances.

When it comes to creating appropriate laws to regulate the short-term rental industry, lawmakers must strike a vital balance that prioritizes both the interests of tourists and the concerns of local communities.

Legislative Initiatives

We’ve actively participated in North Carolina’s legislative landscape in recent years, focusing on short-term rental bills that could have an impact on North Carolina communities. We will continue to monitor any legislation in the future that may impact residents’ quality of life or affordable housing options.
