In Downtown Brooklyn, new 40-story tower adds to neighborhood residential boom

A 40-story residential building has been proposed for a triangular lot in Downtown Brooklyn, adding yet another skyscraper to the ever-expanding skyline of this neighborhood. The project, located at 570 Fulton Street, is being proposed by Slate Property Group; the developer is already in the midst of building a 19-story rental building on an adjacent lot, at 1 Flatbush Avenue.

Slate is collaborating with Hill West Architects on this residential building as well. Plans so far call for 139 apartments, of which 30 percent will be affordable units. The building will also have office space for local businesses and boutique-sized firms. Slate is planning to create smaller office plates to encourage small business owners to apply over larger firms.

In order to proceed as planned, Slate is seeking a zoning amendment, which has yet to be approved, according to YIMBY, which first reported on this new building. Without the amendment Slate will have to settle on a 20-story building.

Slate’s newest project is the latest addition to the wild development boom currently transforming Downtown Brooklyn.
