DES MOINES, Iowa — Hiland Bakery has returned to the streets of the Highland Park neighborhood.
“The reaction has been insane,” said Katelyn Adamson, with Hiland Bakery.
When the bakery closed last summer after 70 years of business, Adamson and her family knew something had to be done.
“I’m seeing a lot of local businesses close down, and it’s really sad to see,” Adamson said. “It’s something that we want to preserve, these local businesses that are supposed to make our community thrive.”
City Councilwoman Linda Westergaard, who represents the Highland Park neighborhood, said it’s a big deal.
“I think we’ve experienced what lots of communities have experienced. The difference is, we’re coming back to life,” Westergaard said.
The bakery officially reopens at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
