Daily Digest: Neighborhood group raises $44K for cancer

BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington neighborhood fundraiser has raised $44,452 for the Community Cancer Center in Normal for cancer research.

Karen Harris, a resident of Golf Court near Crestwicke Golf Course, said the fourth annual event, which included a charity hog roast and silent auction, was held Aug. 18. Since the event was founded in 2015, more than $122,000 has been raised for the center.

The check was presented to Joe Prosser, executive director of the cancer center, who said the money will be used to assist patients with limited resources by providing them with gas cards, transportation costs or medication co-pays.
