La Crosse short-term rental owners defend practice as city nears ordinance regulating them

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — A La Crosse ordinance regulating short-term rentals is a vote away from being official.

Earlier this fall we showed you how some residents oppose Airbnb rentals in neighborhoods.

But owners say their properties help make communities better.

Rob Walensky and his wife rent out four properties on La Crosse’s South Side through Airbnb.

“I’ve had some people in town for business, had some people in for some of the festivals, UWL graduation, a few in town for weddings,” Walensky said.

Customers book anything from a few hours to a few months, and if there’s ever an issue, he’s the one picking up the phone.
