Man ordered to stand trial for murder in shooting at Dartmouth Airbnb

A man charged with second-degree murder in the November 2021 shooting of Alexander Thomas at a Dartmouth Airbnb has been committed to stand trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

A preliminary inquiry was held Wednesday in Dartmouth provincial court for Tyreece Alexander Whynder-Ewing, 28.

The hearing was set for four days but wrapped up in one. Defence lawyer Chris Avery of Toronto said his client was consenting to committal after the court heard evidence from two women, both relatives of the victim.

Crown attorneys Rob Kennedy and Katie Lovett were prepared to call additional testimony from two police officers.
