Jacksonville police looking for driver who sped through school zone
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Jacksonville police are looking for a driver who officers tried to pull over in a school zone.
At about 7:10 a.m. Jacksonville police were conducting traffic enforcement in the school zone area near Jackonville High School on Henderson Drive.
The officer saw a vehicle speeding above the 25 miles per hour limit.
He tried to pull the vehicle over, but it did not stop and drove away from police through the Northwoods neighborhood.
“The officer and his supervisor made a determination to suspend the pursuit in the interest of safety” said Deputy Chief Ronnie Dorn in a news release. “This is a heavily traveled roadway at this time of the day. The safety of the motoring public was our primary concern.”
After the pursuit was suspended, officers located the vehicle, a white 2011 Honda CRV, abandoned on a residential lawn on the 1200 block of Clifton Road.
The investigation continues, police said.
