TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) – The Tuscaloosa city council is working to find solutions to regular flooding issues in one part of the city.

Courtney Gora noticed flooding problems in The Downs subdivision soon after moving there earlier this year. “We had a really really heavy rain in July and our backyard flooded. We noticed some pine cones in our backyard. An we don’t have pine cones near us,” Gora said.

Tuesday night, the Tuscaloosa City Council voted to authorize Mayor Walt Maddox to enter into a agreement with an engineering firm to look for solutions to the flooding there.

McGiffert and Associates would perform a study on the problem. The costs could not exceed $29,630.

City councilwoman Raevan Howard represents that includes the The Downs and says they want a solution that fixes the problem and won’t cause flooding somewhere else.

Neighbors like Gora just want the flooding to stop. ″Honestly I don’t know what the solution is. I’m hoping they can find one for us,” she concluded.

Gora is already looking into buying flood insurance if the problem continues.
